| JWL Slot Cars has always been about enjoying this hobby on a budget. Track borders add realism and takes away the advantage of the outside car being able to ride the guardrail. In this article I will explain how to make great looking walled borders by just using a few items that you may have laying around extra. If not they can be obtained at a very low cost. In this build I will be using Jiada parts, mainly because thats what I have available. You can use any border and flexible track you have laying around. The first thing you need is a border section, 14" straight, and some small screws. I obtained screws from an old controller Controllers have a vast number on parts to salvage, so hold on to them. My next step is to remove the rails. Once the rails are removed. Its time to bring out slotters favorite tool, a Dremel. Using the cutoff wheel, cut the track into four section, by cutting down the slot. You will end up with four pieces that look like this. Next take a border and the track strip and wrap the track strip around the outside of the border. Lining up one side. Take a drill and drill a small hole through the track strip and border. Insure that your hole is smaller than your screw. Then insert your screw. Once the first is in place bend the track around the border and make 3 to 4 holes and attach the track section to the border. The picture below shows what it will look like. Now turn it around and you'll notice that the track extends past the border. simply cut off the excess and this is what you will end up with. Now you can stop there and call it finish. But for this project I decided to paint the entire piece. Once completed this is what you will end you with. This project was done using Jiada standard curve and curve border Please note that all of your walls will not have tops. So if this is important to you, you will need two 14" straights. Est completion time 20mins Cost: 4 Curve borders -$1.00 1-14" Straight - $1.00 screws -$0 _ ---------------------------------------- Total Cost $2.00 Thats decorating on a budget The Borders used also fit R2 1/43 track so this can also be done by the 1/43 racers |
